My therapy "style" is rooted in exchanging conversation with you. I won't be the type who reclines and sits quietly for an entire session; I give feedback! I'll hope that you want to talk and share what burdens you, because you know you better than I do! The more I learn about you, the more feedback I can offer! I'm known for “getting-to-the-point" as rapport builds between us, and many have chosen to work with me in the past specifically because I’ve explained that I won’t "candy-coat” things or “beat around the bush.” My preferred clients are committed self-starters of their own change work, primarily between 18 and 65 years of age. For everyone I work with, I trust they'll have an established team of natural supports around them.
My primary theory in working with you would utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which helps recognize negative or unhelpful thought and behavior patterns, (and perspectives) and then reframe them. What this may look like in session could include: guiding different perspectives of anxious and depressive thoughts so they are better managed, evaluation of unbalanced relationships, or guiding empathetic confrontation of paralyzing beliefs planted via the cycles of abuse. I also believe in folding in a strengths-based approach; that my clients already have existing resources, supports, resilience, and other positive qualities they can use to meet their goals. I can also offer a Christian perspective to the therapy experience, if so desired.
A Pacific Northwest native, I can appreciate living within our two seasons here: Summer, and Rain. When not providing therapy, I may be found advancing entrepreneurship, or in a kitchen utilizing learned skills from a "former life," or perhaps pursuing my next iteration of the “best photograph ever.”
Fees
My private pay rate is $175 per 53-minute session. While I do participate with a number of insurance panels (listed below), please be aware that when working with insurance companies, they will often require a diagnosis in order to approve payment for services. This carries a certain amount of risk to confidentiality, privacy, and to future capability to obtain health or life insurance. The risk stems from the fact that mental health information is likely to be entered into insurance companies’ computers and is likely to be reported to the National Medical Data Bank.
Current Insurance Panels:
Premera Regence United Healthcare Cigna
Kaiser First Choice Aetna PacificSource
Providence Moda Health
Therapy services are provided primarily on-line. However, I also offer in-person services on a limited basis to the Vancouver, WA area!
